Its summer and that means sunshine, vacations, barbecues and unfortunately, bugs and mosquito and tick bites. Normally we think of these bites as a nuisance, but the CDC is reporting an increase in the number of mosquito and tick-borne illnesses, and because of this they are urging us to take precautions. Below are the main diseases and how to protect yourself and the ones you love: Zika Virus: if you live in a tropical climate or if you vacation in one this summer, you may be exposed to Zika. In healthy people, the symptoms are mild and include fever, rash, headache, joint pain, red eyes and muscle pain lasting for several days to a week. Gun Laws Effective Dates

2018 January 1 - Start date for requirement that ammunition sales or transfers be conducted through a licensed ammunition dealer.  Ammo purchased outside of California must first be shipped to a licensed dealer for pickup. July 1 - Start date for requirement that you get state permission before manufacturing or assembling a firearm. December 31 - Deadline to place a serial number on any unmarked firearm possessed after July 1, 2018. 2019 January 1 - Start date for requirement that handguns be stored in a locked container or locked trunk when left in an unattended vehicle. Fishing Tackle Ban

Assemblymember Bill Quirk has introduced AB2787 that will make it impossible to purchase lead fishing weights and sinkers that are approximately 1.75 ounces or less. Widely considered “a solution in search of a problem,” the proposed legislation will hurt California anglers without protecting California fish and wildlife. In fact, as fishing license sales decline due to increased cost, money spent on conservation programs around the state will drop. Click here to sign the petition. Assembly Bill 3199

Introduced by Assembly member Chris Holden on February 16, 2018, AB 3199 would prohibit certain charitable organizations from raffling off firearms. Full text of the bill can be accessed here. The bill has been read twice, passed in the assembly to the Government Organizations committee on March 21, 2018.  It is still active in the Assembly and will move through to the Senate before final approval.  It will then move on to our Governor to either sign or veto. If this passes, it will directly impact how we fundraise! We urge you to contact your representatives!!!
